LSU Health’s Boulmay Appointed to ABIM Specialty Board

Brian Boulmay, MD, Professor of Clinical Medicine at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, has been appointed to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Medical Oncology Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment Approval Committee. He is one of five members of the Committee.

According to the ABIM, approval committees are responsible for approving all assessment content and maintaining the blueprints for Certification, Maintenance of Certification (MOC), and Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKATM) in Internal Medicine and its subspecialties. As such, they play a crucial role in defining their respective disciplines. ABIM has designated Approval Committees for 20 disciplines.

Dr. Boulmay is a hematologist and medical oncologist at LSU Health New Orleans and Program Director for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship. After earning his medical degree from LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, he went on to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine, as well as his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, at the University of Florida. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. His clinical interests are in head and neck, lung, and other aerodigestive tumors. He sees patients at UMCNO and at the VA Medical Center in New Orleans.

According to the Board, ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Its mission is to enhance the quality of health care by certifying internists and subspecialists who demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for excellent patient care. ABIM certifies approximately one out of every four physicians in the United States. ABIM is one of 24 medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
